Cheltenham Festival 2013: day three

Pertemps Final (3m)
This race is famously a graveyard for favourites and the Paul Nicholls-trained Sam Winner, ridden by Ruby Walsh, shoulders the burden this year. The starter sends them on their way, with Captain Sunshine acting the
maggot and refusing to line up - he eventually sets off about three lengths behind the rest of the field. Junior leads the way under Jason Maguire, while Close House makes a terrible mistake and almost unseats Tom Scudamore, who does well to stay on board ....

With seven to jump, Junior leads with Bertie's Dream on his outside. Shutthefrontdoor and Sam Winner are well in contention and Captain Sunshine whips them in with the field covered by about 20 lengths ...

Berties Dream leads them down the back straight with three to jump, American Spin is second and Ballybough Pat is next ... the favourite Sam Winner is being scrubbed along by Ruby Walsh, who gives a shake of his reins ... Berties Dream and Holywell lead them up the hill with one to jump ... Holywell is going the stronger ... Holywell leaps the last with a five-length lead ... Holywell starts idling in front but holds on under strong urging to win for jockey Richie McLernon and trainer Jonjo O'Neill in a thrilling finish. Captain Sunshine was second and Jetson was third.
